El Retiro, Petén began in 1994 with the concept of creating a ecological sanctuary for rest and exploration in the presence of nature. Since then, we have been busy creating a healthy environment to allow the natural reforestation process to take place. We have watched the land in Macanché, Peten regenerate and welcome the presence of native flora and fauna.

El Retiro, Antigua is a perfect complimentary lodge in the popular city of Antigua about one hours drive from Guatemala Airport. Antigua is a favourite landing destination after flying in to Guatemala. The colonial city welcome people from all walks of life and offers excellent opportunities for rest and recreation between jungle adventures and day trips to neighbouring towns.

Our lakeside Ecological Sanctuary is a private natural reserve for the flora and fauna specific to the Peten region in Guatemala. Our visitors are welcome to hike through our jungle paths and explore Guatemala through experiencing it’s fantastic variety of plant and animal life as well as close contact with traces of the ancient Maya civilization.
